Here at The Coastal Dog, it is our mission to make your dog happy by providing a safe, fun, caring atmosphere. The Coastal Dog is a home, not a kennel. That's right! There are no cement runs, no long lonely nights and endless days of echoed barking. Your dog can go inside and out as they please, snuggle on a soft bed or mingle with playmates to their heart's content.
Our outdoor play spaces are large and professionally fenced for your dog's enjoyment and safety. Our indoor spaces are open and airy, filled with natural light and pleasant music.
So, what are you waiting for! Let's see if your dog can be a Coastal Dog!
We are a boarding and grooming kennel for dogs, cats, fish, birds and rabbits. Yes, we have even boarded a fish or two!!! Debbie Sandmaier has owned the kennel since 1999. Mary Groves has been the groomer since 1994. Jamie McConnell has been Debbie's assistant since 2012. The larger dogs are boarded in individual runs, the inside areas are separated by solid walls, for eating and sleeping comfortably. The outside "patios" are separated by a half wall and chain-link fencing. The outdoor runs are covered and screened to keep the bugs and bad weather out. The cats are boarded in a separate building. They stay in floor to ceiling "condos" with two floors.
Midcoast Humane operates animal sheltering facilities in Brunswick and Edgecomb. We provide care and second chances to nearly 3,500 animals every year, and assist hundreds more.
We hold municipal contracts with 39 towns along Maine’s Midcoast. We also run a second-hand store in Boothbay Harbor, Creature Comforts Thrift Store, which helps support our life-saving work.
Every animal that comes through our door receives excellent medical care, spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, care and comfort while they’re with us. We believe that every life is worth saving, and are proud of our 97% Live Release Rate.
Our goal is to celebrate the human-canine bond by providing dogs and their owners with a positive educational and recreational experience, encouraging enrichment activities while enjoying the company of like-minded people in a relaxed, comfortable, supportive and friendly atmosphere.
Two campuses support the many diverse training opportunities to suit all levels of skill and interest — the Mill Road campus for herding and the Boothbay Road campus for all other classes and events.
